As an Instructional Assistant, you’ll support teachers and staff in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children. You’ll assist with classroom activities, help maintain a clean and organized space, and support children’s development through play, conversation, and care. You may also assist the with safe transportation of children to and from the center.

Qualifications:

  • Must have completed 6 Semester units ECE/CD, with a grade C or better or credit.
  • Experience working with children with a diversity of special needs is desirable.
  • HS/EHS/MSHS/State-Braided Instructional Assistants must also meet at least one
    of the following criteria:
    • Have a child development associate (CDA) credential or the California equivalent of an Associate
      Teacher Permit (12 ECE semester units including core courses; and for EHS and infant/toddler classrooms must also have 6 infant/toddler units); OR
    • Be enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within 2 years; OR
    • Have an associate or baccalaureate degree (in any area) or be enrolled in a program leading to
  • Depending on the department assigned, a valid California driver’s license, a current DMV driving record, and proof of insurance may be required to fulfill job-related travel. Reasonable accommodations will be considered in accordance with applicable laws.

As an Instructional Assistant you will:

  • Supervise children during learning, play, meals, rest, and transitions
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, materials prep, and classroom activities
  • Support children’s development in small groups and one-on-one settings
  • Encourage language development, including home language when applicable
  • Help children with toileting, feeding, dressing, and napping
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment
  • Follow health and safety protocols, including daily checklists and sanitation logs
  • Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Family Service Plans (IFSPs)
  • Participate in physical activities, including games, music, and outdoor play
  • Assist with therapy follow-ups and special exercises as needed
  • Document observations, daily charts, parent contacts, and mandated reports
  • Attend home visits, meetings, trainings, and special events as needed
  • Uphold children’s rights and provide respectful, appropriate guidance
  • Assist with safe transportation: boarding, seat belts, supervision, and child release
  • Perform other duties as assigned by teaching or supervisory staff
