Description
This position will primarily work with schools in Santa Maria area, but at times will cover schools in San Luis Obispo County. Implementation of onsite school activities will be required, some office work will be available remotely.

Position Summary:
 
Assists with the implementation of goals and objectives for the Teen Wellness Program. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by providing assistance to health programs for local teens.
 
Required Education and Experience:
 
Wellness Health Educator I:  
  1. BA/BS degree in Social Science, Family Studies, Child Development, Health Education, Health Sciences, Psychology, or related field.
  2. Experience working with adolescents preferred.
  3. Experience in providing health education and public speaking preferred.
Preferred Education and Experience:
  1. Experience in providing health education and public speaking preferred.
  2. Bilingual preferred
Essential Functions:

Wellness Health Educator I
  1. Assists with the implementation of the goals and objectives for the Teen Wellness Programs.
  2. Recruits and encourages students to participate in Teen Wellness activities and services. 
  3. Conducts wellness education for youth aged 13 to 18 in high school, middle school, and community settings. Topics may include and are not limited to reproductive health, mindfulness, nutrition, and/or physical activity. 
  4. Provides one-on-one health coaching to guide and support youth in achieving healthier lifestyles.
  5. Discusses availability of free, confidential, teen-friendly FPACT services and provides referrals to other community resources, as appropriate.
  6. Engages youth in program planning and implementation through the facilitation of school-based clubs and/or community work groups.
  7. Collects and enters data in Client Track; maintains accurate records, and assists supervisor in compiling data for reports.
  8. Establishes relationships with community members, school staff, local businesses, volunteers, and the Department staff to assist in coordinating program activities.
  9. Assists with program marketing, promotion, social media, special projects, and events.
  10. Attends trainings and researches current and accurate health education information and issues affecting teen health.
  11. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients and children. 
  12. Performs other duties as needed.
