POSITION DESCRIPTION: Cook Aide
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 6-7 months; Part Time; 30 hours per week

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists Cook in preparing meals and snacks for children that comply with State and Federal nutrition standards in childcare centers. Assists in maintaining food supplies and food preparation for the facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Assists with food preparation and service that is appealing and according to requirements.
  • Assists with organization and safety of the environment, including sanitation and personal hygiene.
  • Assists with preparing and maintaining accurate, timely, organized, legible records, reports, worksheets, and meal preparation and information documents.
  • Assists with weekly menu plan and implementation according to the Child Care Food Program (CCFP) and MHS Program requirements, including exposure to new foods, reflects cultural foods, includes whole grains and fresh food, etc.
  • Participates in nutrition activities, assists with menu selection and food activities with children and families.
  • Assist with planning, purchase, and organization of food and kitchen supplies.
  • Demonstrates effective parent partnership by sharing menus, recipes, encouraging parent volunteers.
  • Operate Agency vehicles in a safe manner; including safety checks and record keeping, as directed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Bilingual/biliterate (English/Spanish) is preferred, but not required.
  • May be required to pursue or enroll in a program of study for second language acquisition.
  • In designated positions, the requirement may be for a bilingual/biliterate person (English/Punjabi, English/Spanish or other language used by Program families) as needed.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weights, and distance.
  • This job has no need for computer skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid California drivers’ license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy.
  • State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal record clearance before beginning work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/ or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, and extreme heat, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

**IMMUNIZATIONS REQUIRED. Must be current on Measles, Pertussis, and Influenza immunizations per Senate Bill 792 in the State of California. Current proof of shots must be provided before hire.
