PROGRAM SUMMARY

Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age.  Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low-income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves approximately 1,075 children and their families.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Associate Resource Teacher receives general supervision from the Site Supervisor. Assists classroom teaching staff in providing a safe, high quality-responsive, nurturing care to infant and toddlers that is respectful of the child’s development. Provides assistance with implementing individualized learning experiences and evidence-based best practices to support children’s growth in educational, social, emotional, physical and cognitive competencies that support school readiness goals. Assist in completing basic records and shares information with teachers regarding children’s progress. Establishes and maintains positive and productive partnerships with families based on mutual trust and respect. Complies with Head Start Performance Standards, Community Care Licensing, State and Agency’s policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A.  Education

High School Diploma/GED required. Must possess a valid and current California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit. Enrolled in a program leading to an Associate’s degree in early childhood education, child development, Psychology, Social Science, or related field. In addition, the Associate Resource Teacher must have six (6) semester units in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development. If at the time of employment, candidate only has three (3) of the six (6) infant and toddler units, the remaining three (3) units are to be completed within the first year of employment as it will be indicated in an educational plan upon employment. An infant and child CPR and First Aid certification may be required depending upon position assignment.

B.  Experience

One (1) year of experience as a student intern, tutor, or instructional assistant working in a classroom setting serving children under 5 years old is required.

C.  Physical Demands

The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met, or are encountered, by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee may frequently lift and/or move a minimum of 25 pounds up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

D.  Medical Examination

Prior to first day of employment, employees must submit an initial health screening, tuberculin (TB) skin test or chest x-ray clearance, immunization records for measles, pertussis (whooping cough) and  influenza. 

E.  Fingerprint Clearances

All potential employees will be subject to obtain fingerprint clearances from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Child Abuse Index, Megan’s Law and System for Award Management prior to starting work. 

F.  Other Special Requirement

Must have the use of an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a valid California driver’s license or have available private transportation.
