GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Member of a staff team which provides appropriate early childhood experiences for children in a developmentally appropriate classroom setting. Assists teaching staff to ensure Program requirements are met including assurance for the health and safety of all children. This position is intended as a support position to multiple classrooms based on program need.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Assists teachers or other education staff in the development and implementation of center and classroom activities. Serves as an appropriate model for positive adult/child interactions.
  • Implement quality teacher/child interactions to foster their development.
  • Ensures a safe, healthy, supervised environment for young children that are in compliance with all applicable health and safety standards.
  • May be required to assist teachers or other staff in carrying out family services activities that may include: record keeping; phone calls and/or other communication with parents related to classroom responsibilities.
  • Assists teachers in creating and conducting developmentally appropriate group and individualized curriculum.
  • Supports that designated child screening and assessments process including written observations are conducted as assigned.
  • Help to maintain current, accurate, organized, written records and reports as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding client and personnel issues, information, and records.
  • Participate, along with other staff members, in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the center.
  • Encourage parents to participate in center educational and social activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 12 core units in Early Childhood Education with a C grade or better; previous experience in a licensed child care program; previous experience in a licensed child care facility, desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Bilingual, biliterate (English/Spanish, English/Punjabi, and/or other language ability are desired, not required, based on program needs).
  • Ability to add, subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight, and distance.
  • Basic computer skills desirable.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possession of or ability to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification based on program need.
  • Possession of a valid California driver license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy.
  • May be required to use personal vehicle in successful completion of job duties and responsibilities.
  • State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal record clearance before beginning work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
  • The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and occasionally required to run, climb, jump or balance in an effort to demonstrate large motor development.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
