Position Summary:

The Help Me Grow (HMG) Program Specialist is responsible for intake services, resource and referrals, and providing support services to children 0-5 year of age, their families, and early childhood providers. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by helping families raise healthy children that are equipped for success in school and life.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Must have a BA/BS degree in child development or related field.
  2. Experience in early intervention or family support programs for young children.
  3. Experience in the use of developmental screening tools for young children.
  4. Experience in an administrative or management position in the social services or non-profit environment.

License & Certifications:

  1. Must provide certificates of completion of approved pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within 30 days of hire. The employee is responsible for renewing and maintaining a valid CPR/first aid certification at all times.
  2. Must have dependable, insured transportation and valid California Driver License (mileage to be reimbursed) and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.

Essential Functions:

  1. Conducts system intakes through various portals, including phone, e-mail, internal and external referrals, and face-to-face meetings.
  2. Researches most appropriate resources for individual families and ensures parents and caregivers are connected to them.
  3. Provides care coordination of early childhood resources to ensure families and caregivers receive services as seamlessly as possible. Conducts follow-up with clients to ensure services are received and if further resources are needed.
  4. Provides education and information on the importance of conducting routine developmental screenings for children ages 0-5.
  5. Administers assessments, including Ages and Stages Questionnaires and maternal/child health related tools.
  6. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with CAPSLO staff, community partners, providers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
  7. Advocates for individual clients as well as for public policies that support children and families.
